Unseen Roads, Unbroken Spirit

December 25th, 2002, was the day she landed in the United States, touching down at DFW Airport right after high school, young, naïve, and carrying dreams bigger than her fears in a land completely unknown. As a girl born and raised in Nepal, this journey was more than a physical move; it was a testament to the power of hard work, courage, and self-belief. She still remembers that first night vividly, scared and alone, peeking through the blinds as the Christmas lights outside felt unreal and overwhelming, missing home and wondering how she would navigate life beyond financial and emotional hardship.

Living as a first-generation immigrant and a first-generation college student meant learning everything the hard way. She faced challenges like converting metrics to pounds, learning to drive on the right side of the road, and adapting to a culture, language, and schooling system that felt completely foreign. There were weeks when she lived on nothing but a loaf of bread and cereals, with an empty stomach and empty pockets. In those moments of scarcity and struggle, she learned two invaluable lessons: "sink or swim." Those tough times forged her resilience, pushing her to rise above every obstacle.

Along this journey, she encountered both kindness and adversity. She is deeply grateful to those who crossed her path and offered their hands. They taught her that no job is too small and that even the smallest acts of love and kindness can leave a lasting impact. Studying abroad opened her eyes to the world in ways she could never have imagined, helping her grow emotionally, develop empathy, and become a person who brings people together, supports them, and lifts them up.

Her humble beginnings taught her to see the world through a different lens, to accept challenges with grace, and to understand that even the smallest roots can have a powerful impact on who we become. When she started from scratch, there was a unique pride and sense of accomplishment, a recognition that every step, every challenge overcome, is a testament to her strength. In this journey, she also found love, and that love gave her strength beyond measure, filling her with gratitude for every moment.

The last 23 years have been marked by many setbacks and more failures than successes, people often see only the success at the tip of the iceberg, not the weight beneath it. Yet every disappointment and every failure taught her lessons just as powerful as success, building her character, strengthening her leadership skills, and forging the intestinal fortitude that carried her forward. She has lived richly, grateful for every up and down, every high and low, as they have all shaped her into the person she is today.

And so, the girl who once looked up at the sky, watching airplanes soar and dreaming of changing her life, has not only flown, but she also found love and strength within herself, charted her own course, and continues to embrace every challenge and opportunity with courage, resilience, and deep gratitude. To any young dreamer reading this: know that your journey, no matter how challenging, is filled with endless possibilities. Let your dreams be your compass, let your spirit and your heart guide you. The world is yours to explore, and every step you take is a step toward becoming who you are meant to be.
